Born Jamaica on April 6 1963 and being inspired by Sly Dunbar, Dennis Brown and Stevie Wonder, Turner started his musical career aged 11 as a drummer doing session work at various recording studios including Tuff Gong, Dynamic Sounds and Channel One. With the band 'Black Culture', he got more regular work performing around the hotel circuit and at other stage shows. With the 'Zenith Band' Turner performed at Reggae Sunsplash '84 before going on to join The Tony D'Costa Affair. It was with the encouragement of Tony D'Costa that Turner took his chance to sing and was soon voicing for King Jammys, Stereo Mar and Stereo One sound systems.
