Born Gregory Anthony Isaacs in Fletchers Land, Kingston, Jamaica on the 15 July 1950. In the 1970s, the 'Cool Ruler' emerged as one of the most prolific and popular recording artists in Jamaica, releasing a number of self-produced singles on his African Museum record label (formed in 1973 with Errol Dunkley) and also for other producers including Alvin Ranglin, Gussie Clarke and King Jammy.
