Born in Sturgetown, Jamaica, 17 January 1966, Rexton Rawlston Fernando Gordon moved to Kingston aged eight years old. By the age of twelve he was studying General Echo, Brigadier Jerry, Yellowman and served his DJ apprenticeship on the Roots Melody soundsystem. Under the name 'Co-Pilot' he recorded his debut tune 'Heat Under Sufferers Feet' in 1984. Josey Wales took him to work with King Jammys and after a name change to Shabba Ranks, the hits soon started to come, including 'Fresh', 'Love Punany Bad' and 'Needle Eye Pum Pum'.
